Terminal Engagement Is Now Up!

Here is is! Just 6 months late this time, I’m getting a bit better.

But seriously, Terminal Engagement has been a beast. It’s a lesson in what happens when a plot-point that’s supposed to be resolved in the first act of a four-act play grows to eat up the entire thing. The result is, I think, a worthwhile, even epic, story, with further epicness saved for the next WtC book.

Amusingly, in a total reversal of my normal method, today’s release date comes early; I had told everyone it would be available at the end of the month. Why did this happen? A mad dash to finish the last steps before GenCon next week, and, to be honest, clicking the wrong button on Amazon; instead of dropping for pre-purchase with August 1 being the official publication date, it went up today and once I saw that I said “Why not” and yanked it back only long enough to link it to the trade paperback edition before putting both of them up.

So enjoy, everyone! I do ask two things. First, if you find the story quality up to my usual fare, review it! Amazon reviews don’t drive visibility, but they sure help potential readers checking out the page. Second, if you have social media presence, get the word out even if it’s just sharing the Facebook post about it on your pages. In the early days of Kindle it was easy to get visibility on a new title, but with so many publishers now cheating with the genre labels (most “superhero” titles are RPG Lit or Progression Fantasy and Harem titles today) and the sheer volume of new digital books coming out all the time now (most of dubious quality), it’s getting harder and harder.

So on to GenCon! One piece of bad news there; the proofreading for the trade paperback didn’t finish soon enough to print copies for the convention. HOWEVER, anyone I see there who’s ordered their copy gets a signed bookplate they can put inside it since I can’t physically sign their copy there. I’m seriously looking forward to GenCon, it’s my favorite convention of the year just because of all the games, games, games. Three nights of after-hours gameplay before I dive back into my projects.

Next month there will be new goodness on my Patreon site, a short story or even two, discussions of various topics, etc. The fall is going to be busy, I hope everyone’s looking forward to it!

  1. Congratulations on your work and completion of your latest novel. I understand how delays can come up. I have been focusing on local history the last five years. Yet there are still some readers who want another fiction from me.

Good luck on your upcoming work and enjoy the rest of the summer.

  2. You know what sucks about your books? They end, and then I have to wait for the next one! I saw the message about Terminal Engagement being released, promptly got my e-book, and started reading. I was going to pace myself. Read a few chapters, then put it down. Draw the story out. And at first, it was fine. But then I get just past the mid-point, and all that control just went right out the window! Annnnd…now I’m done. Dammit! I even started reading the bonus Christmas story, but managed to say “NO! Save it for tomorrow at least!” We’ll see how that goes.

Great story, Mr. Harmon. Like Jacky, I was never really sure about Kitsune, but reading about them as a couple, they fit together well. And I like how you brought Killjoy/Gun Bunny/Cypher into the story. It was a good fit within the story arc.

I also liked the science bit about the Event. Being a certified science nerd myself, your explanation about Breakthrough powers comes off as plausible. Sure, we all suspend disbelief when reading about superheroes. But coming up with a plausible explanation within the world lore boundaries is always cool. At least in my view.

Thanks again for another great romp through your world! looking forward to the next one!

  3. Are there plans to release the book on other platforms? I have greatly enjoyed all your books, but currently I am unable to read Amazon ebooks.

    1. I hope that it will get picked up for an audiobook contract, but don’t have one presently. So I’m afraid that for now it’s either Kindle or tradepaperback.
